It's not difficult and there's no differnce in the bell pattern of the beams blacktop,beams redtop,3sgte or 5sfe. Sorry i hadn't realized I posted before. The BT and RT pan setups are going to be totally different. As for the head, the BT makes more power at higher rpm, so there is going to be some difference in cams.

The BEAMS head will not fit any other block than the one it was designed for because of the oil system. The oil pump is different from any of the prior engines and if I remember the head is a slight bit longer than the prior gens. The beams mk2 is faster than the blacktop mk1 despite being 500lbs heavier. The blacktop gets you a low 15second 1/4 usually. In a mk2 the redtop gets you a mid to low 14second 1/4. With a redtop in a mk1, you should be solidly into the 13's. It's a somewhat heavier motor, but probably still lighter than a 4agze.
